To All A Goodnight (1980)
David Hess’s only film as director, To All A Goodnight, is the story of a Christmas party held by the students at a local girls school. When all the boys show up and the party gets going, a killer in a Santa suit begins to off one couple at a time. It is the typical story line for an 80’s slasher, but this was actually one of the early Christmas slashers. And unlike later holiday slashers, the killer’s identity remains a mystery until the conclusion.
On a low budget, Hess directs a successful themed slasher. The kills are certainly creative, and the gore is decently accomplished although limited. All the elements are there and well-executed, but nothing stands out on its own. As a result, the film is overlooked by many. To All A Goodnight really is a decent slasher, especially around the holiday season, so I’d recommend adding this to your list of holiday horror viewing.
